Mom Market tops $2.1 Trillion Annually
Since Maria Bailey and the BSM Media team first tabulated the annual spending of US mothers way back in 2001, the mom market has continued to grow. It took a lot of number crunching for Bailey to calculate the $1.7 trillion that is so widely quoted in today's market. However, as expenditures within this segment continued on a progressive incline, so did the need to review the numbers again to recalculate the annual spending of moms. Drum roll please ....... Today US moms spend $2.1 trillion a year. That's more than the gross national product of Portugal, New Zealand and Australia. We are often asked about the formula used when we sum it all up. The number comes from data collected from the US Census Bureau, Department of Agriculture, the agency that tracks household spending and research data regarding the control women have over household spending.
